Nvidia again dominate with Kepler, dual launch for desktop and mobile - the first reviews

Today debuts Kepler, code name for the new GPU architecture from Nvidia that will gradually replace the older graphics cards based on Fermi. An unusual launch, which sees the introduction of a whole family, but only two models: GeForce GTX 680 for desktop applications and GTX 660M for the mobile, both for the bands strictly higher of the two markets.

In addition to the usual core of miniaturization due to its transition to 28 nanometers, the GTX 680 is a new system for adjusting the clock, unified and not partitioned between the core and shaders (1006MHz), which now increases needed in the Boost mode (1058MHz ) in a manner entirely similar to the frequencies of the Turbo CPU.

All other features as stram total number of processors, texture units and memory speed and see dramatic increases result in performance that far exceed the older generation is that the current flagship of AMD (Radeon HD 7970), which is exceeded on the performance front, efficiency and low noise.

As regards instead the mobile debuts the GTX 660M (together with two models old, rebranded with the series 6xx), which is nothing other than a light version of the desktop version. GeForce GTX 680 will be available in the coming days in Italy between € 499 and € 519. For a detailed review of the GPU, we refer to AnandTech articles (in English), or Ubuntu.
