Seagate: 1 Terabit per inch with HAMR, soon hard drive 6TB

HAMR is an acronym for heat-assisted magnetic recording (temperature-assisted magnetic recording), and is the name of a new technology developed by Seagate that will dramatically increase the capacity of traditional hard drives.
The new storage system will replace the PMR (perpendicular magnetic recording), and raise the current limit of 3TB - or 620 Gigabit-per-inch - to 6TB models for desktop and notebook of 2TB in the foreseeable future. Seagate also promises to reach stratospheric limits within the decade: up to 60TB.
