Nikiski Concept, a prototype ultrabook envisioned by Intel

Nikiski Concept is the name of a prototype ultrabook least singular shown by Intel these days at CES. The peculiarity is in a kind of transparent window with built-in touchpad putting in place of the typical palm rest, which also closed notebook allows to display a portion of the screen.

The basic idea is to have a rapidly turned to some information even when the handset is closed, maybe when you are moving and do not have a base to support it, as a kind of tablet. If this idea leaves you a bit perplexed, well, you are not alone.

The design has some rather obvious flaws, the first of these is the poor optimization of space inside the chassis. Especially in laptops thinner fact, much of the motherboard is concentrated just below the palm rest, a space that in this prototype is occupied by the window glass. Another problem is the considerable waste of energy on lighting around the monitor, when in reality it is only used a fraction. Not to mention the negative impact on weight due to the use of reinforced glass, as we have seen in the recent HP Envy Spectre. On balance in short, a concept not really happy. SlashGear has made a video that shows the ultrabook in action, continued after the break to view it.
