Qualcomm is unleashed in this first tranche of 2012. His new System on a Chip Snapdragon S4 are among the most promising new market, especially the high-end model MSM8960. The current chip Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 is able to manage both GPS and GLONASS networks for improved accuracy and faster fixing, to integrate a 4G LTE Gobi module, to support the new 802.11ac WiFi standard that promises speeds similar to those of Gigabit LAN, to exploit Image Signal Processor boasting high computing power due to the Adreno 225 graphics subsystem and processor Krait based on a thorough revision of the core ARM Cortex A9.
Qualcomm Snapdradon S4 Pro will in fact what has been seen for the normal version, but it will support the new graphics subsystem, Adreno 320, which will replace the 225 even better. The announcement was made during a press conference following the opening times of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Despite so we know how the GPU Adreno 225 has already proved to be very powerful, the 320 version will go much further, offering a capacity of about 4 times more computing and support to various functions (such as OpenCL APIs, which allow use with the so-called Light Field Camera as Lytro) to the graphics engines intended for gaming developed by Epic and Unity or as the presence of a dedicated hardware module for Windows Graphics Acceleration, a feature of Windows 8 for ARM platforms.
According to Qualcomm this whole series of additional features which enable improvements in performance with the rendering of Web pages, the management GUIs, and of course video games. The SoC is still intended not so much as to smartphones to tablets and even high-end notebooks, both devices require more power to handle higher resolutions and larger screens as well as advanced features. According to the manufacturer the first device based on this new SoC may make their appearance in the second half of 2012.
