Bolex Digital, economical camera for filmmakers: $ 250 000 in one day at Kickstarter

Bolex was a Swiss company that manufactured cameras from the first half of last century. Now the brand back to life thanks to the idea of ​​Joe Rubinstein, who has obtained the historical name of the license to produce the Bolex Digital D16, a digital camera very special that debuted with a prototype in these days at the SXSW Film Festival.

But we do not speak of a simple digital camera consumer, but a machine designed from the beginning for independent filmmakers, who have smaller budgets but still need a camera capable of restoring images suitable for the big screen.

Besides affordability (something like $ 3000, ie € 2300), another key element of the Bolex is the ability to save uncompressed video in a sequence of images in standard RAW cinema 2K (2048 × 1152 pixels). This feature, combined with simplicity of use would make it the ideal way for novice filmmakers.

The project debuted on the platform shared funding Kickstarter and has really taken off, $ 100 000 collected in the first days, with $ 287 000 (!) Obtained to date. Now that the funding is there, Rubistain expects to produce at least 100 individuals have already started in August, a software post-production and editing systems add. The large-scale production could start as early as Autumn instead.
