Tests conducted by the IAM and car driving simulator Reseacrh Transport Laboratory (TRL). This test is done by checking the driver when using their phones to access Facebook.
Reported by Tech Watch, Monday (05/03/2012), the study found that a slow reaction time by 38 percent and the driver can not respond quickly when confronted with the car in front of him, and slowly change the speed. Not only that, the researchers also observed a vehicle that floated around the streets and out of lanes.
IAM, said the results show that access to social networking behind the wheel more dangerous than drinking alcohol or marijuana. By comparison, driving at the limits prescribed by law for alcohol, the reaction slows down by 12.5 percent and 21 percent of marijuana.
Also note the different groups, 24 percent of the age of 17 to 24 years admitted to using their smartphones while behind the wheel. "This study shows how dangerous using a smartphone while driving, but that can not be trusted it is a relatively common behavior," said CEO of IAM, Simon Best.
In line with the Best, senior researcher TRL, Nick Reed said bahawa research shows that driver behavior was significantly and dramatically tergangu when the smartphone is used to access social networking.
"Motorists spend more time to look at their phones on the road while trying to send messages, make them aware of the dangers that arise, and changing traffic situations. Even when the danger was known, the driver's ability to respond to slow down, "said Reed.
